Fields

Entry Requirements

An applicant with the following qualifications may be admitted to follow the Master of Philosophy degree programme:

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree (Special) with a First or Second Class (Upper Division) pass from a university or any other higher educational institute recognized by the University Grants Commission in the relevant field of study.
  2. OR
  3. A Bachelor’s Degree (General/Combined) with a First or Second Class (Upper Division) pass from a university or any other higher educational institute recognized by the University Grants Commission with a Grade not less than an average ‘B’ or equivalent grade point in the subject in which the applicant intends to register for a Master of Philosophy Degree programme;
  4. OR
  5. A Bachelors’ Degree (Special/General/Combined) and a Postgraduate Diploma obtained from a university or any other higher educational institute recognized by the University Grants Commission in the subject in which the applicant intends to register for a Masters’ Degree programme;
  6. OR
  7. A Bachelors’ Degree (Special/General/Combined) obtained from a University or any other higher educational institute recognized by the University Grants Commission in any discipline and a Masters’ degree from a University or any other higher educational institute recognized by the University Grants Commission in the subject in which the applicant intends to register for the Master of Philosophy Degree programme;
  8. OR
  9. A person may also be admitted as a student to follow the Master of Philosophy degree Programme if he/she has obtained special qualifications for direct admission to the degree programme which the relevant Board of Study of the Institute has accepted as suitable for the applicant’s proposed field of study.
  10. AND
  11. Any other eligibility requirements determined by the PGIHS as specified by the relevant study programme in a Board of Study.

Qualification Requirements

  1. Completion of twenty four (24) credits from the courses prescribed by the respective Board of Study
  2. Successful completion of a thesis of between 30,000 to 50,000 words and pass an oral examination of the thesis
